European Allies Point to Russia After Series of Sabotage Incidents in Germany
The arson investigation began only days after two suspected sabotage attempts on Germany's power grid and a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport in August. German authorities publicly blamed the drone attack on Russia and described it as part of a hybrid‑warfare campaign.
Germany and several European allies, including Poland and Britain, have accused Russia of carrying out hybrid warfare aimed at critical infrastructure. In response, Poland, Britain and other allies summoned Russian diplomats to register strong condemnation. The Kremlin, however, has denied any involvement.
German officials argue that the pattern of attacks – on the power grid, an airport and now a defence firm – is intended to intimidate countries that support Ukraine and to create division within Europe. The diplomatic protests show how quickly the incidents have turned into a broader political dispute.
The latest arson case therefore reinforces the allies' view that Russia is behind a series of sabotage actions, a claim Moscow rejects, and it has already led to coordinated diplomatic actions across the continent.
