Stan Kroenke’s Angel Deal Could Transform His Multi‑Sport Empire
The purchase would bring Major League Baseball into Stan Kroenke’s already extensive sports empire. Kroenke’s holdings currently include the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, the Premier League’s Arsenal, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, MLS’s Colorado Rapids and the SoFi Stadium complex in Inglewood.
Kroenke’s teams have been among the best in their leagues in recent years. The Rams, Avalanche, Nuggets and Arsenal have all captured championships in the past five seasons, and each remains a serious contender for future titles.
The Angels, by contrast, are struggling. They sit at 53‑85, the worst record in the American League, and are on track for their 11th straight losing season and 12th consecutive year without a playoff berth – the longest active streaks in MLB. Arte Moreno bought the club from Disney in 2003, and the franchise has been in decline since its last playoff appearance in 2009.
"The Angels are a storied franchise anchored in a great market," Kroenke said in a statement. "We look forward to an exciting future with the Angels organization." Moreno added, "The Moreno family has been honoured to steward the Angels for 23 years, and we believe with KSE's experience and success, they are the best next owner for the franchise."
If Kroenke can apply the winning formula that has driven his other teams, the Angels could become the newest jewel in a multi‑sport empire that already spans football, basketball, hockey, soccer and now baseball. The deal shows how acquiring a faltering franchise can be a strategic move for an owner looking to broaden influence across America’s biggest sports.
