Android Users Beware: Your Location Data May Be Shared
App makers might be sharing your location data with advertisers without knowing it, says a report from the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
The problem is with some tools that advertisers give to app makers to help them make money. These tools collect location data by default. If you let an app see your location, it might share this data with advertisers without you knowing.
The report says that even if you give an app permission to see your location, you might not want it to share this data with other companies. Many users do not know that giving location permissions to an app also gives permissions to other companies' code inside the app.
You can stop sharing your location with any app at any time through the Settings page.
To do this, tap Location, then App location permissions. Then you can go through each app and choose Don't Allow or Not Allowed.
Another option is to turn off location sharing for all apps by going to the main menu and turning off Use Location. However, this will also affect apps that need your location, like maps and weather.
This is about Android.
