A 2024 CoderPad survey published by Forbes found that 36 % of technology workers do not want to become managers, mainly because they value work‑life balance. A 2022 Future Forum survey reported that 45 % of middle managers felt burnout—the highest rate among post‑COVID employees.

Economic volatility adds another layer of pressure. Hoang Minh Tri, CEO of a Hanoi human‑resources consultancy, says senior leaders face market and shareholder demands and pass that stress down to middle management. In March, the Ministry of Health proposed monitoring people under intense work pressure to detect early signs of mental problems.
