I Visited the Best UK Seaside Town and Found Something Unexpected

Folkestone in Kent is one of the UK's best seaside towns for 2026. It has a lovely harbour and a creative area. Folkestone is only an hour from London by train. I went to visit it.

Time Out said Folkestone is great because of its Creative Quarter. This area has many colourful shops, art galleries, and restaurants.

My first stop was the Creative Quarter. I saw many nice shops and buildings. The town was very run down before, but it has improved a lot since the early 2000s.

A rich man named Sir Roger De Haan helped make the town better. He said when he was young, there was nothing to do in Folkestone. Now, there are many things for kids and families to do.

Time Out also said the Harbour Arm is a great place to visit. It has live music, food, and drink vendors, and you can see the English Channel.

The Harbour Arm is very charming. It used to be a ferry terminal, but now it's a place where people can meet and have fun.

I went to the beach, Sunny Sands, as recommended. I wanted to swim, but the beach was small and crowded.

The beach was not what I expected. There were many kids playing and it was noisy. The swim was nice, but it was not relaxing.

I decided to look for another beach. Before my trip, I asked for a recommendation and was told about Mermaid Beach.

To get to Mermaid Beach, I walked along the promenade. I ended up at the Zig Zag Path, which was built in 1921.

The view from the top of the path was amazing. I could see Mermaid Beach and the sea. It was a beautiful place to be.

Mermaid Beach was much quieter than Sunny Sands. The views were also very beautiful and open.

My trip was very nice.

But one thing surprised me: I could see the coast of France. I knew it was close, but it was striking to see it clearly.

Seeing France made me think about the people who try to cross the Channel in small boats. It's a dangerous journey.

It made me understand why this is a big issue for towns like Folkestone.

The experience made me think that Britain can't completely stop people from crossing the Channel.

The important question is how the country will deal with this issue.
