0:00Hanoi is looking to turn its afterdark
0:02activities into a broader nighttime
0:04economy, combining tourism, culture,
0:07entertainment, and creative experiences.
0:09A new plan issued by Hanoi People's
0:11Committee last month sets out a
0:13three-phase roadmap through 2045, with
0:16the sector targeted to contribute more
0:18than 12% of the capital's GRDP in the
0:21long term. Our reporter joins the city
0:23night tours to see how that vision is
0:26beginning to take shape.
0:31>> Hanoi is still busy long after the
0:34sunset, and tonight I'm joining one of
0:36the growing numbers of tours exploring
0:39the capital after dark. Starting here on
0:41the top deck of the double-deckers as it
0:44moves through the capital at night.
0:47>> From the upper deck, the tour takes in
0:49familiar landmarks before continuing on
0:51foot through the streets and alleys
0:54around the Temple of Literature.
0:57Here, the city's street names,
0:58traditional occupations, and everyday
1:00life become part of the experience.
1:05>> There are alleys I've walked through
1:06many times, but never realized they
1:09offer such interesting experience. For
1:11example, I can learn about the history
1:13behind the names or discover local sites
1:16like Thang Long Medical Temple.
1:21>> The tour is among dozens of nighttime
1:23products currently operating across
1:25Hanoi as businesses explore new ways to
1:28attract visitors after dark.
1:31>> We want to be among the first to offer
1:33an experience that gives people a fuller
1:35view of Hanoi from indoor and outdoor
1:38venues to artistic spaces and the
1:40everyday life of local people.
1:44>> Hanoi tourism is shifting from growth in
1:46visitor numbers towards greater depth
1:48and quality.
1:50This means creating more economic value
1:52from our cultural heritage and artistic
1:54assets, as well as a night time
1:56entertainment and cultural experience.
2:00>> This shift is now part of Hanoi's
2:02broader strategy for developing its
2:04night time economy, but existing
2:06activities remain relatively fragmented.
2:09While the city still needs more spaces
2:11and facilities to support a wider range
2:14of activities after dark.
2:17>> What Hanoi's night time economy needs in
2:20my opinion and experience
2:23uh are more open spaces.
2:26Uh open not just in terms of being
2:28exterior, but also open interiors that
2:31are accessible to a wide range of age
2:33groups and more communal activity.
2:36>> Hanoi's new plan aims to address that
2:38gap by developing key night time
2:40economic zones by 2035,
2:43from heritage and culture [music] in
2:44Hoan Kiem and Cua Nam to modern
2:47entertainment in Tay Ho and Me Dinh, and
2:49creative industries and cultural
2:51experiences in suburban areas and craft
2:54villages. By 2045, Hanoi aims to attract
2:57eight to 10 million international
2:59visitors a year [music] to night time
3:01activities, while establishing itself as
3:04a city of night time cultural
3:06experiences.
