Why Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Is Starting a Film and TV Company

The name comes from a slogan the Liberal Party used while Trudeau was prime minister for nine years, a term that ended in 2025.

Hope & Hard Work will make both scripted and unscripted shows. It will produce documentaries, TV series and feature films, and several projects are already in development.

One project is a TV version of Perry Chafe’s novel Closer by the Sea. Another is a TV adaptation of Uzma Jalaluddin’s mystery novel Detective Aunty, with Trudeau and Telford as executive producers.

Trudeau and Telford say the lineup is diverse and aims to create audience‑driven storytelling that brings people closer and builds empathy.

Trudeau stepped back from politics and announced his resignation in January 2025. His new path is similar to former U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, who launched Higher Ground in 2018, and to Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who started Archewell Productions in 2020.
