Vietnam Makes Progress in Remote Robotic Surgery

A network between Hanoi and Can Tho allowed two hospitals to work together, with each taking turns controlling the surgery.
The network connects two Vinmec hospitals, allowing them to share control of the robotic surgery system.
The first patient was a 15-year-old girl with a tumour, and the goal was to remove it while keeping her ovaries healthy.
A surgeon in Hanoi controlled the robotic system for the first patient, while a team in Can Tho performed the surgery, and then they switched roles for the second patient.
This was the first time in Vietnam that two hospitals used a remote robotic surgery system with two-way control.
The Director of Hanoi's Health Department said this achievement is a big step forward for Vietnamese medicine and technology.
He said this milestone shows that Hanoi is working towards a modern healthcare system.
He also said that public and private healthcare providers should work together to improve healthcare services.
New laws and policies are helping Hanoi develop its healthcare system and attract skilled medical professionals.
The city is also working on a plan to let experts work at multiple hospitals and facilities.
Hanoi is studying how to price high-tech medical services, including remote robotic surgery, to create a legal framework for these innovations.
