What Brian Clark’s 9/11 Survival Story Teaches About Gratitude and Helping Others
On the morning of 9 September, Clark was on the 84th floor of the South Tower when United Airlines Flight 175 hit the building at 9:03 a.m. Earlier, at 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 had struck the North Tower.
After the impact, Clark heard a muffled voice from the 81st floor. He went to help and rescued a man who was trapped. The two men later walked down the stairs together.
They reached the lobby and were told to run. They ran two blocks south and stopped at a nearby church. The church gave them safety before the South Tower fell at 9:59 a.m.
The South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m.; the North Tower collapsed later at 10:28 a.m. In total, 2,996 people died in the attacks.
Clark’s company lost 61 employees that day. Clark said he feels grateful to be alive, but also very sad for the many who did not survive.
Clark told Global News that his wife fainted when she heard his voice on the phone after he called her.
Clark says his story shows the importance of gratitude, helping others, and remembering the emotional impact of such tragedies. He shares his experience whenever people ask, hoping they will learn from it.
