Spotify Will Label Fake Artists

Spotify Will Label Fake Artists

Spotify Will Label Fake Artists
Starting in September, Spotify will put an 'AI Persona' badge on profiles made by AI. These artists will not be in playlists or recommendations by default.
Spotify will stop showing AI artists to users by default. Users can still search for and play their music if they want to.
Users have told Spotify they do not like finding out an artist is fake after listening to their music.
Many users want AI music to be labeled clearly. A survey found that 80 percent of users want to know if a song is made by AI.
Artists can now tell Spotify if their profile is an AI Persona. These profiles will get a badge in September.
Spotify will also check profiles to see if they are made by AI. If they are, the profile will get a 'Likely AI Persona' badge.
The badges will appear on artist profiles and in search results. Users can tap on the badge to learn more.
The policy only applies to profiles that look like real people. It does not apply to all fake or virtual musicians.
The badge only labels the artist, not the music. Spotify has a separate label for music made with AI.
The need for clear labels has become more important as AI artists gain popularity.
One example is The Velvet Sundown, which presented itself as a real band before revealing it was a synthetic project.
AI music has also been showing up in Spotify's recommendations. One user found an AI-generated song in her queue.
The number of AI songs on streaming services is growing. One service received 90,000 AI-generated tracks per day.
Other streaming services are also trying to make AI use more clear. Apple Music added a feature to label AI-made music.
Spotify is also working on other features to help users know what they are listening to. One feature lets artists review releases before they appear on their profiles.
Spotify has also introduced a 'Verified by Spotify' badge for real artists. Hundreds of thousands of artists have been verified so far.
Spotify's new features are trying to answer a question users rarely had to ask before: Is the artist real?
Spotify is working to make things clearer for users.
