HCMC Company Investigated for Making Fake Nike Shoes

The Domestic Market Management and Development Department started an investigation after getting information from the US about a group that might be making fake Nike products.

On July 16, market authorities and police raided an MP Company factory. They found very realistic fake shoes that were hard to tell apart from real ones.

The seized goods are worth over VND100 billion.

MP Company said they made the shoes under a contract with F.C.T Company and that the materials came from abroad.

MP Company showed contracts and emails with F.C.T Company, as well as documents that seemed to allow them to use Nike trademarks.

It's not clear if MP Company was a victim of F.C.T Company or if they were involved in the fraud.

This year, F.C.T has exported many Nike and Air Jordan shoes to the US, worth over VND25 billion.

But Nike Vietnam said they never gave MP Company or F.C.T Company permission to make Nike shoes.

The seized goods look like fake Nike shoes, and this is one of the biggest and most complex cases of intellectual property infringement in recent years.

Market authorities are inspecting MP's factory.

The case involves companies in the US and China, and it shows how international contract manufacturing and fake documents can be used.

The director of the Domestic Market Management and Development Department said the findings show how well international cooperation works in detecting intellectual property infringements.

The discovery is important because it not only stops a violation but also reveals a method of infringement that might still be happening in the market.
