New Bird Flu Cases Found in South Australia

A group of birds called greater crested terns were found in South Australia's south east.

South Australia has found seven new cases of H5 bird flu, with five of them at the same place over two days.

The Minister for Agriculture, Julie Collins, said the birds were sent to a lab to see if the flu is spreading locally.

Minister Collins said, 'We will give an update when we get the lab results, but it may take some time.'

She also said, 'At this time, there are no big groups of birds dying, and there is no sign of the flu in our farms or food systems, and the risk to humans is still low.'

Minister Collins said an update will be given when the lab tests are ready.

Australia has had 20 confirmed cases of this flu so far, in South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland.

All the cases have been found in birds that migrate or live near the sea.

The states and territories have been doing a lot of testing and have found these cases all along the coast.

The authorities in South Australia will give an update at 11:30 am ACST.
