0:00Forget the X-Men. The only thing people
0:02want to talk about from this Avengers
0:04Doomsday trailer is the way a certain
0:06someone talks.
0:08>> Something's coming. Something we may not
0:10be able to deter
0:13before this day is done.
0:16>> If that voice caught you completely off
0:18guard, you're not alone. After months of
0:20buildup, this is the first time we've
0:21heard Robert Downey Junior's version of
0:23Dr. Doom actually speak. And despite the
0:26hype that's been building ever since it
0:28was first announced that he would be
0:29playing the villain, none of us were
0:30even close to ready for it. For many,
0:33RDJ's voice is completely
0:35unrecognizable. As one Redditor said,
0:37"Doom's voice is insane. I don't know if
0:40it's just me, but I wouldn't even know
0:42that was Downey from The Voice." In
0:44response, another fan wrote, "Until I
0:46read these comments, I had no idea who
0:48it was." In the comment section on
0:50YouTube, one fan said what many are
0:52thinking. Glad to hear RDJ doesn't just
0:54sound like Iron Man. It's been a while
0:56since Iron Man died fighting Thanos, but
0:58we definitely agree that it would be
1:00pretty hard to accept RDJ as Doom if he
1:03just sounded like Tony Stark behind a
1:05different metal mask. Speaking of Iron
1:07Man though, one person noticed that he
1:09sounds similar to someone we know from
1:11Iron Man 2, Ivan Vano.
1:13>> You come from a family of thieves and
1:18butchers. The comparisons by no means
1:21stop there. One person went so far as to
1:23compare him to Verer Herzog, which is
1:26pretty spot-on. If you're not a big
1:28cinnophile, you'd likely remember him
1:30best as a client in the Mandalorian.
1:32>> Is it not the code of the guild that
1:35these events are now forgotten?
1:38>> Perhaps the funniest comparisons is that
1:40of Nandor from What We Do in the
1:41Shadows?
1:42>> We drank the blood of some people, but
1:44the people were on drugs and now I'm a
1:47wizard. Yeah, we might not be able to
1:50inherit that now. Thanks, Reddit. Others
1:52have been quick to point out that this
1:53isn't the first time RDJ has shown us
1:56that he loves to go allin with his
1:57accents. As one YouTube commenter said,
2:00RDJ did a great accent for Holmes. I
2:02assume it will be as good for Doomsday.
2:04Obviously, not as Homes.
2:06>> I'd keep an eye on that if I were you.
2:08>> Those days are behind me.
2:09>> Right behind you.
2:10>> It's cost us the rent more than once.
2:12>> RDJ's homes role is only one example of
2:15his accent game. Who can forget his turn
2:17as Kirk Lazarus in 2008's Tropic
2:19Thunder?
2:20>> I KNOW WHO I AM. I'M A dude playing a
2:23dude disguised as another dude.
2:25>> Of course, he's had his fair share of
2:27misfires as well. Case in point, 2020's
2:30Doolittle, in which he played the vet
2:32who can literally speak to animals,
2:33apparently in a Welshishish accent. If
2:36you completely block this one out, we
2:38don't blame you. Everyone else did.
2:40>> Tell you what, give us 5 minutes. If you
2:43don't feel better, you can fry us all.
2:45Stop talking.
2:47>> So, it comes as no surprise that a small
2:49sector of MCU fans aren't quite as
2:51stoked about RDJ's accent as everyone
2:54else. As one person said on X, "Doom's
2:56voice sounds so forced." Others took the
2:59opportunity to wish that they'd cast
3:00someone else as Doom, referencing one of
3:03the alternatives that many fans wanted
3:05back when they first announced that RDJ
3:07had secured the role. One Instagram user
3:09said, "I prefer Mass Mickelson. This was
3:12a money grab, but honestly, it's pretty
3:15hard to find negative comments about
3:17RDJ's Doom voice. The reactions so far
3:20have been overwhelmingly positive. He is
3:22hoping that he lives up to everyone's
3:24lofty expectations when Doomsday drops
3:26in theaters in December. Until then,
3:28we'll just be over here wondering if he
3:30keeps the accent going until he's done
3:32with the DVD commentary.
