iPhone 18 Pro price jump linked to soaring memory‑chip costs

Market research firm TrendForce says the increase matches the 14‑18% rise it predicted in June and fits Apple’s usual pricing pattern.
The main driver is the cost of 256GB memory chips, which have jumped almost 400% compared with a year ago, a surge linked to the global rush to build AI infrastructure.
Because the memory chips are a large part of the phone’s bill of materials, the overall cost of a 256GB iPhone Pro has gone up roughly 38%, putting pressure on Apple to adjust retail prices.
While Apple might try to protect its profit margin by absorbing some of the extra cost, the steep chip price rise makes a $150‑200 price bump likely for consumers.
