Survivor Greece Accident Highlights Contestant Safety and Legal Liability

On May 11, while spearfishing off the coast of the Dominican Republic, 22‑year‑old Stavros Floros, a contestant on Survivor Greece Season 13, was struck by a tourist boat. The impact severed his left leg above the knee and caused serious injury to his right leg.

Floros was rescued by a passenger who applied a temporary tourniquet, then taken to a local clinic. He was later transferred to a hospital in Miami, where doctors performed multiple surgeries and he spent 61 days recovering.

In a lawsuit filed in Miami‑Dade Circuit Court, Floros is seeking US$100 million in damages. The complaint names AcunMedya, AcunMedya Global, Acun LLC, Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali and the parent company of Skai TV as defendants.

The court documents allege that the production did not provide any safety vessels or other protections, even though it knew the area had heavy, high‑speed commercial and tourist boat traffic. Skai TV said it immediately suspended the show and offered support, but Floros says he did not receive proper assistance from the production company.

The case illustrates how insufficient safety planning on a reality‑TV set can lead to severe injuries and trigger massive legal claims, underscoring the need for clear risk‑assessment and protective measures in such productions.
