How Jeff Foxworthy Turned a “Redneck” Insult into a Comedy Badge

During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the 67‑year‑old comedian said someone once called him a “redneck,” and he turned that insult into a compliment, calling it a “badge of honor.”

Foxworthy told the interview that he first began telling redneck jokes in the late 1980s. The jokes were popular, and he even closed his 1990 comedy special with one.

He explained that the jokes were easy to remember and always got a laugh, but after many years he thought people were tired of them. He said the last time he performed redneck jokes on stage was during the 2003 Blue Collar Comedy Tour.

After more than 20 years away from the jokes, Foxworthy said he wanted to bring them back for his new special “The Joke’s on Me.” He told the crowd that he hadn’t used the jokes in 20 years, and the audience responded with laughter.

Foxworthy’s new special began streaming on Fox Nation in June. He said the show also gives fans a behind‑the‑scenes look at how he writes jokes, an idea he got after watching a documentary about the Beatles.

Foxworthy hinted that this may be his last stand‑up special. He said he now prefers to spend time with his grandchildren or on his tractor.
