Watch out: Toxic mushrooms sold in Harrop could make you sick

On September 20, mushrooms were sold at the Harrop community hall near Nelson. Experts have tentatively identified them as Paxillus involutus, also called brown roll‑rim mushrooms.

Interior Health warned that eating these mushrooms can cause serious health effects. The health authority asked anyone who bought them to throw them away.

The B.C. Drug and Poison Information Centre examined the mushrooms and said they could be toxic.

Symptoms may start in about two hours. They can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and dark‑coloured urine.

Anyone who has eaten the mushrooms or who gets these symptoms should get medical help right away. They can also call the B.C. Drug and Poison Information Centre at 1‑800‑567‑8911 for advice.

As of Sunday, Interior Health said it does not know of any illnesses linked to the mushrooms.
