Teenage Canadians Break New Ground at the 2026 CPKC Women’s Open

At this year’s CPKC Women’s Open, four Canadian players aged 18 or younger made the cut – a first in the tournament’s history.

Seventeen‑year‑old Anna Huang from Vancouver tied for fourth place at 12‑under‑par, becoming the top Canadian. Sixteen‑year‑old Aphrodite Deng of Calgary tied for seventh and was the low amateur for the second consecutive year. Michelle Xing, who turned 18 in July, received a sponsor’s exemption, made the cut and finished at three under par.

The last occasion when multiple under‑18 players from any country made the LPGA cut in Canada was in 2014, when a 16‑year‑old Brooke Henderson and 17‑year‑old Lydia Ko both qualified.

Canada’s women’s head coach Salimah Mussani said, “The young talent coming out of Canada right now is phenomenal.” Veteran champion Brooke Henderson added, “It’s amazing to see so many Maple Leafs at the top of the leaderboard – the future looks really bright for the next few years.”

These strong performances by teenage golfers may signal a growing pool of talent, inspire more young girls to pick up the sport, and give Golf Canada a deeper base of players for future international competitions.
