Three Vietnamese Gems Show Off Limestone Rivers, Mountain Passes and Historic Streets

Travel website Nine.com.au recently listed Ninh Binh, Ha Giang and Hoi An among its top 15 most beautiful places in Southeast Asia, praising Vietnam for offering three completely different landscapes.

In northern Vietnam, Ninh Binh’s dramatic limestone cliffs and tranquil rivers earned top honors in TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards, with attractions such as Trang An, Tam Coc‑Bich Dong and Bai Dinh Pagoda highlighted.

Further north, Ha Giang’s Ma Pi Leng Pass drops down onto the Tu San Canyon – one of the deepest river gorges in Southeast Asia – and is the centerpiece of the famous multi‑day Ha Giang Loop motorcycle adventure.

Further south, the ancient town of Hoi An was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1999; its well‑preserved wooden shop‑houses, Japanese bridge and Chinese assembly halls remain intact, and motor vehicles are largely barred from the old town to keep the streets peaceful for walkers and cyclists.

Vietnam Travel magazine noted that, unlike other countries whose rankings rely on a single type of scenery, Vietnam’s three spots showcase three distinct settings, underscoring the country’s unique appeal in the region.
