South Korea's three budget airlines will merge – what it means for you

The boards of Jin Air, Air Seoul and Air Busan approved the merger on August 21.

The airlines will ask their shareholders for approval in December 2026 and will need government approval before they start the new airline on March 17, 2027.

The new Jin Air will have 58 planes, which is more than Jeju Air’s 45 planes and T’way Air’s 47 planes.

For travelers, the merger should give better connections between Seoul, Busan and many international cities, and it will allow more flexible flight schedules.

Even though the merger could lower the airlines’ operating costs, it also removes competition on routes where the three airlines used to compete, so ticket prices might rise on those routes.
