Hiya.
0:05
So my name is TED.
0:09
You're all very welcome to my world.
0:11
And I'm going to sing you three songs.
0:16
The first one is for joy,
0:19
and the second one is for humanity,
0:23
and the last one is for the heart.
0:27
So they're really depressing, you're welcome, see ya.
0:29
(Laughter)
0:34
OK.
0:35
(Guitar music)
0:37
Alright, it's called "To my bones."
0:51
[Music] We’re kissing the lips of strangers
0:54
We're hugging whoever next we meet
0:58
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
1:04
When everything's shut, we're listless
1:07
Take them home and cook them dinners and sing
1:11
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
1:17
Dominoes and medicine
1:19
A two you are and new you win
1:20
Take a seat and let it grow
1:22
The world will love you
1:26
Woo!
1:27
Elephants of memory
1:28
An alphabet of chemistry
1:30
All of these things have made me
1:33
Roscoe and Beenie,
1:37
Laughter and no TV
1:39
I've got punch lines and fisticuffs
1:44
And tons and tons of luck.
1:46
I've got firesides and dutch gold
1:50
There's no such thing as too old
1:53
And my fortune is my home
1:57
My home and all I know
2:01
Oh, yeah, because, because
2:06
oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:09
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:13
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:16
Oh, life, I love to my bones
2:19
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:23
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:26
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:29
Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:38
(Music ends)
2:41
Thanks very much.
2:42
(Applause and cheers)
2:49
Thank you again.
2:53
OK, this next song is brilliant.
2:55
(Laughter)
2:59
It's called "As the River Flows."
3:01
And it's in support of migrants and refugees
3:06
and in defiance of racism.
3:08
(Cheers and applause)
3:16
[Music] And as the river flows,
3:19
well you and I are made of water
3:23
Surging into history
3:26
Universal mystery
3:29
All in all, we cannot choose
3:33
The life that we were given
3:36
So we move across the land
3:39
To sky, to sea
3:42
Looking for more than we were offered
3:45
Are we not allowed?
3:48
Are you still where your mother pushed you out?
3:52
I doubt that this is true
3:54
If you can move, then I will too
4:00
To to to the land,
4:07
To the sea
4:09
To safety, to safety, to safety
4:13
To the land
4:14
to the mouth of the sea
4:16
To the land
4:18
To the sea
4:20
To safety, to safety, to safety
4:23
Overcoming mystery
4:25
Overcoming mystery
4:34
What are you scared of
4:36
Aren't you brave enough
4:38
To pave a basic decency
4:41
for human kind?
4:43
A baby lost its family
4:46
Lost its life
4:51
Don't turn your face away
4:54
Don't tell me borders are for jobs and civic order
5:00
When I know you see it differently
5:04
You want your palette white
5:07
You want it cleaned
5:13
Walk a mile
5:15
Walk 2,000 miles
5:18
Walk 3,000 miles to to the land
5:23
To the sea
5:25
To safety, to safety, to safety
5:29
Overcoming mystery
5:32
To safety, to safety, to safety
5:35
Overcoming mystery
5:42
Overcoming mystery
5:45
Overcoming mystery
5:48
Overcoming mystery
5:52
Overcoming mystery
5:56
Overcoming mystery
5:59
Overcoming mystery
6:03
Overcoming mystery
6:06
Overcoming mystery
6:09
Overcoming mystery
6:28
To safety, to safety, to safety
6:30
To safety, to safety, to safety
6:33
To safety, to safety, to safety
6:35
To safety, to safety, to safety
6:38
To safety, to safety, to safety
6:40
To safety, to safety, to safety
6:45
(Cheers and applause)
6:56
Wow.
6:58
Thank you so much.
7:01
I would like to invite my lovely partner on stage for this,
7:04
Tracey K, please come on stage.
7:07
(Applause)
7:13
This one is for your heart.
7:15
(Guitar music)
7:19
Well, I’ll tell you the truth
7:23
As I only do, my friend
7:31
I'll been living my youth
7:35
As I live till my end
7:38
My friend
7:43
I've been battered and bruised
7:46
But it's only a few that have stayed or left
7:53
And that's nothing a hammer
7:56
A nail or my mind couldn't cure
8:03
But I've left people hang
8:06
On a stick or a word
8:08
If their grip grew tight
8:13
All the bottles of battles
8:16
The beds that I've shared they're all mine
8:21
But the more you hold on to me
8:27
The less you can have of me
8:34
The more you hold on to me
8:39
The less I am yours to keep
8:52
Yet the more you hold on to me
8:58
I'll try not to leave.
9:05
Peace on earth.
9:06
Thank you so much.
9:08
(Cheers and applause)
9:18
Hello everybody, my name is Jacob Collier,
9:20
and I am this year's music curator for TED.
9:22
And the musician you just heard, Wallis Bird,
9:24
is one of my dearest musical companions.
9:26
She is crazy.
9:27
I don't know how you felt, but the first time I heard Wallis sing,
9:30
I had tears and goosebumps.
9:32
She's like a roof-raising musician.
9:33
She accompanied me on tour, opening for some shows a couple of years ago,
9:37
and I knew then what I know now,
9:39
which is that she possesses that rare gift that not many musicians possess,
9:42
which is the ability to win over any crowd with her totally wild energy,
9:46
her joy, and her colors.
9:47
Her voice to me is like this chameleon.
9:51
It can change color, it can change shape, it's stretchy.
9:53
It's this magnificent instrument of joy.
9:56
And I think one of my favorite moments of the talk you just witnessed
9:59
was that moment where she goes higher and higher and higher,
10:02
and the energy just builds and builds and builds.
10:04
She really is unlike any musician I know.
10:06
Hope you enjoyed. Lots of love, cheerio, bye.
