Why Keeping Vietnamese Alive Strengthens Identity, Community and Global Confidence
Politburo Resolution No. 23, issued on August 2, 2026, officially declares overseas Vietnamese an inseparable part of the national community and points out that the Vietnamese language is a source of the country's soft power.
The Vietnam Summer Camp program shows how language ties can be deepened. A family in Finland, whose children were born abroad, sent the three siblings to the camp. Their visit to historic sites in Vietnam helped them feel a stronger emotional bond with the homeland and motivated them to improve their Vietnamese skills.
In 2026, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, led by deputy chairwoman Nguyen Quynh Mai, organized activities in 150 locations, received 57 applications from 22 countries, set up four Vietnamese‑language book collections in Thailand, Singapore and Brunei, and supplied nearly 5,000 books and other materials to diaspora communities.
These facts illustrate why the language matters: it anchors personal identity, links scattered communities to each other and to Vietnam, and builds the confidence needed for successful integration into global societies.
