The gas, described as appraisal or pilot gas, started flowing into the NT power grid eight years after the Territory lifted its fracking moratorium. The NT government says that fully developing the Beetaloo could generate $17 billion in economic value over the next 20 years.

Todd Abbott, managing director of Tamboran Resources, praised the Territory’s support, saying it was the most supportive government he has ever worked under.

The Australian Greens, however, warned that the Beetaloo is a future "climate bomb", condemning the project as a threat to climate goals.

Jingili‑Mudburra native title holder Rosemary Raymond told reporters the gas project could give her people a better future, emphasizing that the land belongs to them and they need opportunities for their children.
