Tesco explained why some customers see a £120 charge on their bank statements.

Many Tesco stores have petrol stations where you can fill up your car. When you use the Pay at Pump, Tesco checks if you have enough money by putting a £120 hold on your card. You can buy up to £120 of fuel with your card, but you can't use contactless payments. You pay with your card, and the pump will show how much fuel you can buy.

Tesco says most UK bank cards work at Pay at Pump, except for Visa Electron. If you don't have £120, your bank will say how much you can spend, and the pump will show that amount.

Some banks might not let you spend less than £120. If that happens, try another card.

You should only pay for the fuel you buy, but sometimes £120 might show up on your statement. Tesco says this is rare and your bank might not update your balance right away. You'll only pay for the fuel you bought, but if you're worried, ask your bank.

Tesco also said you can use contactless cards at their kiosks for up to £100, but not at Pay at Pump. They also take other payment cards like fuelGenie and UK Fuels at their petrol stations.
