Singapore Law Society Found to Have Big Problems in Leadership and Workplace Culture

Singapore's Law Society had an audit and found big problems in leadership, workplace culture, and governance from 2022 to 2025, said Law Minister Edwin Tong.

The investigation did not find any proof of bad financial actions or a cover-up, Edwin Tong said.

Edwin Tong answered a question from MP Dr Wan Rizal about the audit findings and what the Ministry of Law plans to do.

The allegations were about bad workplace behavior, weak governance, and poor handling of complaints, said Edwin Tong.

The Ministry of Law got an anonymous email on September 13, 2025, with serious allegations against some people and practices in the Law Society.

The allegations were serious and happened from 2022 to 2025, Edwin Tong said.

The Ministry of Law sent the allegations to the Law Society Council to investigate.

The council appointed a committee to look into the matter and make recommendations.

The committee had Law Society members and non-members and worked independently of the council.

The committee gave its report to the council on June 5, 2026, and the council sent it to the Ministry of Law on July 1.

The audit found no deliberate financial wrongdoing but found big problems in leadership, workplace culture, and governance, said Edwin Tong.

These problems are not acceptable in an institution like the Law Society and can hurt the organization and its employees.

The current Law Society Council has accepted the committee's findings and started to implement its recommendations.

The council must now look at the findings carefully and take strong steps to address any shortcomings and improve governance.

Edwin Tong also said the council will meet with members in August to discuss the committee's findings and the Ministry of Law will monitor the progress.

The Law Society has a special role as the representative body of Singapore's legal profession and must be held to high standards.

It must show integrity, professionalism, and accountability, Edwin Tong added.

The Law Society must be governed well and be accountable, Edwin Tong said.
