South Korea Gets 10.7 Million Foreign Visitors in First Half

South Korea had 10.7 million foreign visitors in the first half of the year. This is 26.9% more than in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic.

China is South Korea's biggest tourism market with 3.21 million visitors.

Japan is second with 1.95 million visitors. Taiwan is third with 1.15 million, followed by the US and the Philippines.

South Korea had over 10 million visitors by late June, which is earlier than last year. This shows the country might meet its target of 22-23 million visitors in 2026.

Tourism is expected to keep growing due to a visa-free policy for Chinese tour groups and more international flights.

The government is changing rules to stop unfair pricing at tourist spots and improve the travel experience.

New rules will punish hotels that don't show room rates or charge too much. They will start on August 4.

Hotels that break the rules will be closed for five days the first time. If they keep breaking the rules, they will be closed forever after the fourth time.

The punishments will get tougher if hotels keep breaking the rules.
