Hotel Prices in HCMC Increase by 20% in Q2
There were about 17,000 hotel rooms, with some new three-star hotels opening. Most hotels are being upgraded rather than new ones being built.
Room prices went up even though there were fewer flights to the city. The number of foreign visitors increased by 50% in the first six months to 6.4 million.
A popular area for tourists in HCMC.
Five-star hotels had average room rates of around VND5 million per night, with 75-80% of rooms full.
Four-star hotels had average rates of VND3.5 million, with 72-78% of rooms full.
International visitors and business customers still wanted to stay in high-end hotels. Existing hotels did not face much competition due to limited new supply.
Hotel revenue per room increased by 19.3% in the first quarter due to higher prices and more bookings.
No major new hotel projects are expected in HCMC this year. By 2029, about 900 new high-end rooms will be added.
The number of hotel rooms will not change soon, helping existing hotels keep their prices and occupancy rates.
However, customers now prioritize brands and service quality, so some hotels may face pressure and need to renovate or reposition themselves.
A hotel expert said the competition is now about quality, brand, and the ability to invest in upgrades.
More international brands are expected to enter the market in the medium and long terms. A new Hyatt hotel is one of the developments to watch.
New hotels, including Nobu Hotel and JW Marriott, will enter the high-end segment in 2027-2028.
The hotel industry outlook is positive due to growing international visitor numbers and the recovery of tourism.
HCMC aims to attract 61 million visitors and generate VND330 trillion in tourism revenues in 2026.
