TWU national secretary Michael Kaine told the ABC that the dispute centres on pay, working conditions, increasing casualisation and safety concerns. He said workers will not accept what he described as a “sham arrangement” by Qantas.

The strike would affect QantasLink flights departing Sydney and freight operations, and could spill over to travellers heading to regional areas. Because school holidays are about to start in Queensland, Victoria and the Northern Territory, many families may feel the impact.

Qantas said it has prepared contingency plans to minimise any disruption to QantasLink customers and operations. The airline also reaffirmed its commitment to reach an agreement that includes annual pay rises for its ground staff.

If the walkout occurs, passengers and freight customers should expect possible delays or cancellations, especially during the busy school‑holiday period.
