A Frenchman Changed a Vietnamese Woman's Life Plan
Trinh wanted to stay close to her family and help take care of her nieces and nephews. She also planned to move into a nursing home when she got older.
In 2024, Trinh's sisters, who lived in France, made a dating profile for her. They wanted her to practice French and maybe find love again.
Trinh's sisters helped her with the dating profile because she didn't speak French very well.
Trinh and her husband are shown in a photo at their home in Da Nang in July 2026.
When men found out that Trinh's profile was managed by others, they stopped chatting with her. But one man, Guillaume, kept talking to her.
Guillaume had been divorced and was looking for a serious relationship. He liked that Trinh was honest and real on social media.
Trinh tried hard to keep the conversation going with Guillaume. She looked up every word before responding, and Guillaume was always patient with her.
Even though they lived far apart, Trinh and Guillaume talked every day. Guillaume taught Trinh French, and she taught him some Vietnamese phrases.
Their conversations started with language practice but soon moved on to deeper topics. Trinh talked about her childhood, and Guillaume shared about his divorce.
Guillaume did something very kind for Trinh. He moved out of the house he used to share with his ex-wife to show respect for Trinh.
Guillaume admired Trinh's love for her family and her willingness to try new things.
One day, Trinh sent a message with a mistake in it. Guillaume thought she was saying she loved him, but she wasn't. He just smiled and said, 'I love you.'
To show he was serious, Guillaume visited one of Trinh's sisters in France. Her sister was impressed by his kindness.
Guillaume bought chopsticks and a rice cooker to learn how to cook Vietnamese food. He also started learning the Vietnamese language and culture.
In February 2025, Guillaume flew to Vietnam to meet Trinh for the first time. He was surprised to see her waiting with flowers at the airport.
When Guillaume met Trinh's family, he used chopsticks easily and helped with the dishes. He kept asking if Trinh was tired and wanted to help her.
Guillaume even learned how to greet Trinh's mother in Vietnamese.
Trinh and Guillaume got married in 2025.
Seeing Guillaume take care of her father and nieces changed Trinh's mind about marriage. She decided to give it a chance.
After three trips to Vietnam, Guillaume and Trinh got married in Da Nang in August 2025.
Guillaume moved to Vietnam in 2026 to teach and be with Trinh. He flies to Da Nang every weekend to help take care of Trinh's father.
Guillaume says their unexpected love story taught him that anyone can change their life. If you look, you'll find the person who makes you happy.
Trinh still wants to study in France, but for now, she's staying in Vietnam to take care of her father. She's learned that marriage doesn't mean giving up your freedom.
