Four Prairie Tornadoes Confirmed: What the New Reports Teach Us
One of the new tornadoes touched down near the community of Kola, Manitoba. It damaged a barn and nearby trees and crops, and the project measured maximum wind speeds of about 140 km/h when it landed around 5:30 p.m.
Around the same time, two tornadoes formed near Elkhorn, Manitoba. The first, an EF-1 rain-wrapped tornado, hit at about 6:35 p.m. with wind gusts of 155 km/h, causing damage to barns, farm outbuildings, grain bins and homes.
A second, weaker tornado followed at about 6:50 p.m. It was classified as EF-0 and damaged several bins and farm outbuildings in the Elkhorn area.
No injuries were reported from any of the four tornadoes, according to NTP.
These confirmations illustrate how the NTP investigates storm reports, assigns EF ratings based on wind speed and damage, and records the impact to help communities prepare for future events.
