0:09ahead. During an interview with Today,

0:11the star of said scene, the supremely

0:13talented Samantha Morton, alluded to how

0:15bonkers [music] it is by saying,

0:18>> So, without giving anything away,

0:19there's a scene that I do that people

0:22cannot believe is not CGI.

0:26Odysseus and his men encounter after

0:28dealing with ball-of-feces, Poseidon's

0:31cyclops son, and some extremely

0:33unfriendly Laestrygonian [music] giants.

0:35If you're familiar with the story, you

0:37know what happens after she, according

0:39to Zeus's law, offers them food, drink,

0:41and shelter. She also turns them into

0:43pigs. But, it's not as simple as just

0:46waving a wand or uttering an

0:47incantation. Instead, it begins with the

0:50men seated around her cottage table and

0:52they're ravenously enjoying their bowls

0:54of stew. It all seems pretty normal at

0:56first, but things start to get weird

0:58once it becomes clear that they're no

1:00longer in control of their own bodies.

1:02As they start stuffing their faces like

1:03they're all competing to see who can

1:05make the grossest [music]

1:06mukbang video of all time, Circe circles

1:08the table and starts using her hands to

1:11literally shape them into pigs, as if

1:13they're made of nothing but clay. One by

1:15one, she essentially kneads them into

1:17swine. Each transformation more

1:19grotesque than the last. At one point,

1:22she even shoves her entire arm down a

1:23dude's throat. It's revolting in all the

1:26best ways and totally unexpected. This

1:28is because Nolan hasn't done anything

1:30remotely close to this in any of his

1:32previous [music] films. While we're all

1:33very used to the fact that he strives

1:35for authenticity, no matter how hard it

1:37is or how much it costs, [music]

1:38watching Morton's Circe perform literal

1:40magic right in front of our eyes is

1:42something else entirely. We honestly

1:44have no idea how he filmed it. Like we

1:47said before, David Cronenberg, the

1:49undisputed king of body horror and

1:51practical special effects, [music] is

1:52going to lose it when he sees the film,

1:54if he hasn't already. That being said,

1:56we really hope Nolan considers doing a

1:58straight-up horror film sometime in the

2:00near future. Yes, he went so far as to

2:02call Oppenheimer a horror film, but

2:04we're talking real horror. He's been

2:06able to master and push forward every

2:09genre he sets out to tackle. So, it's

2:11fun to think about what he can

2:12contribute to that well-explored [music]

2:13realm. While the practical effects

2:15aspect of the scene will likely be

2:17talked about for years to come, Morton's

2:19performance as a whole will also go down

2:21in history. But, during [music] a Today

2:22interview, Craig Melvin brought up a

2:24quote from Nolan that speaks to the

2:26power of her [music] acting.

2:27>> After one of Samantha's takes, the crew

2:29gave her a great round of applause. The

2:31last time that happened was with Heath

2:33Ledger on The Dark Knight.

2:35>> That's some profoundly high praise. So,

2:37it comes as no surprise that Morton

2:39didn't even know how to respond. But,

2:41this is far from her first brush with

2:43groundbreaking cinema. She's been a

2:45Hollywood staple for decades and boasts

2:47[music] a long list of accolades,

2:49including two Oscar nominations. We have

2:51no doubt that her brief [music] but

2:53powerful performance as Serci will earn

2:55her at least a few more. Her crazy scene

2:57is just one of many that can't be found

2:59anywhere in the trailers.
