0:00The Magnificent Seven may need a new
0:02name. Some investors are starting to
0:03call them the Lag Seven as the AI trade
0:06enters a [music] new phase. For years,
0:08the biggest tech companies all moved
0:09together, but lately that trade has
0:12started to split apart. The biggest
0:13winners haven't been the companies
0:15pouring hundreds of billions of dollars
0:16into AI infrastructure. They've actually
0:18been the companies selling them the
0:19chips they need to do so. Just look at
0:21this chart. The Philadelphia
0:22Semiconductor Index has absolutely
0:24soared this year, while the Magnificent
0:26Seven as a group has been basically
0:28flat. That's because investors are
0:30starting to ask a simple question. When
0:32will all that AI spending actually start
0:34to pay off? For now, chipmakers are
0:36seeing immediate demand as Big Tech
0:38races to build out AI data centers.
0:40Meanwhile, the hyperscalers are still
0:42trying to prove they can turn all that
0:44investment into meaningful revenue and
0:46profits. As it stands, the market is
0:48rewarding the companies enabling the AI
0:50boom more than the companies funding it.
0:52But Wall Street says that's a trend that
0:54won't last forever. Analysts at firms
0:56including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs,
0:58and JP Morgan say the next big catalyst
1:00is earning season, when investors will
1:02get a clearer look at whether AI
1:03investments are starting to pay off. The
1:05AI trade isn't over, it's just evolving.
1:07The question isn't who's spending the
1:09most anymore, it's who's actually making
1:11money from it. Read more about the
1:12ever-evolving AI trade on Business
