US Helps Vietnam Identify Martyrs' Remains

The team, led by Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Van Gau, met with the US Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to discuss finding and identifying remains of Vietnamese martyrs.
The US agency has big labs in Hawaii and Nebraska where they use many methods to identify remains, including DNA sequencing.
At the meeting, the two sides talked about their past work together to find missing soldiers. The US and Vietnam have worked together for a long time to find US soldiers missing in action.
Vietnam has helped the US find and return the remains of many US soldiers, which has helped improve relations between the two countries.
The Vietnamese team asked the US to share more information and documents to help find the remains of Vietnamese soldiers.
They also asked the US to share their technical methods and equipment to help Vietnam identify remains more easily, including DNA testing and other advanced methods.
The US agency said it takes about two years to identify a case, which is a challenge because Vietnam has many remains to identify.
The US agency said they consider helping Vietnam a top priority and will do their best to support Vietnam, especially in areas where the US has expertise.
The meeting was successful and opened up new ways for the US and Vietnam to work together to find and identify remains, which will help the families of the martyrs and strengthen trust between the two countries.
