Ta Phinh Lake: A Seasonal ‘Mountain Bay’ Worth Visiting

During the dry months, the low‑lying plain is farmed for rice, corn and other crops. From August to November, rainwater from the surrounding hills floods the plain, creating a temporary lake.
When the water rises, the plain becomes a clear, gentle‑rippled lake that locals call a “mountain bay.” This “mountain bay” lasts about 7‑10 days before the water recedes.
Quang Kien, a young local tourism operator, says visitors can take boat rides, enjoy the scenery, learn about Hmong life and taste distinctive local dishes.
Visitors are advised to go in the early morning or late afternoon, bring food, drinks, a sun hat and insect repellent, and check the weather forecast or ask locals before setting out.
The lake is easy to reach by road. It is only 25 km from Moc Chau ward, so travelers can also visit nearby tea hills, Hang Tau and scenic cafés in the same trip.
