Teen AI prodigy may join $50 billion startup co‑founded by Vietnamese researcher

Nathan Chen Guangyu, 17, is rumored to join Discovery Loop, according to a social‑media account that tracks AI talent moves. At Moonshot AI he helped cut the operating costs of its Kimi models, letting them compete with OpenAI’s GPT and Anthropic’s Claude.
Discovery Loop was co‑founded by Vietnamese AI researcher Le Viet Quoc and former Google chief scientist Jeff Dean, along with two other former senior Google researchers. Launched only two months ago, the company is already targeting a valuation of about $50 billion despite not yet releasing a product.
The startup’s mission is to automate scientific research using artificial intelligence, and it is pursuing recursive self‑improvement (RSI), a goal described by Jeff Dean at the Agentic AI Summit. RSI means an AI system can repeatedly improve its own capabilities, potentially running thousands of scientific experiments in parallel.
If Chen indeed joins Discovery Loop, the partnership would illustrate how exceptional young talent can intersect with massive AI investments and ambitious scientific‑automation goals, making the venture a standout case in the industry. Such a combination of youth, funding, and cutting‑edge research goals is rare in the fast‑moving AI sector.
