Learning from Da Nang’s Vision: Reclaiming Coastlines and Building a Smart Green City

According to the master plan, Da Nang’s total population is projected to reach roughly 5.5 million by 2040 and exceed 6.5 million by 2050. Within the urban area, the number of inhabitants is expected to surpass 2.26 million, including the 400,000 people who may live on the reclaimed coast.
Green development is a core pillar. The master plan calls for ecological corridors, flood‑retention zones, wetland parks and extensive green spaces, while protecting iconic sites such as the Son Tra Peninsula and Hoi An Ancient Town.
Economic diversification focuses on high‑tech sectors. The plan highlights semiconductor microchips, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, advanced materials and clean energy as priority industries. Da Nang Hi‑Tech Park is slated to expand to about 1,710 hectares, linking industry with transport and logistics.
Da Nang’s approach shows how large‑scale land reclamation can be combined with ecological design and high‑tech investment to create a sustainable, future‑ready city. The city aims to become a national growth hub and a model for smart coastal development.
