American Tourists Lead Spain’s August Tourism Surge
In August, Spain welcomed 12.3 million foreign visitors, a 9.2 % rise from the same month last year and the highest total ever recorded for August.
The United Kingdom still led overall, sending 2.41 million travelers – a 9.3 % increase – but the surge from the United States is reshaping the visitor profile.
Tourism insiders say the U.S. boom is fueled by several factors: visa‑free entry, a strong perception of safety, excellent air links, and a growing appetite for Spanish culture and cuisine, according to tourism insiders.
American tourists can travel visa‑free for stays of up to 90 days within any 180‑day period for tourism, business or family visits.
Airlines are adding more direct flights between the U.S. and Spain, with carriers such as Delta, United and American Airlines expanding routes to Madrid, Barcelona and seasonal destinations like Málaga, Palma de Mallorca and Bilbao.
