Oh man, when I was younger, I wanted to
0:03
be a superhero. I was like, "Oh man, I
0:05
want to save the world." [music] And
0:07
it's not like one big move like in the
0:09
movies where you do one thing, you press
0:10
one button. It's the small things. And
0:13
figuring out what those small things are
0:14
in the everyday life makes [music] a
0:16
difference. And I don't I want to
0:17
inspire people to find that for
0:18
themselves.
0:20
[music]
0:21
I'm Anthony Porter. I made a point of
0:23
turning my environmental passion into my
0:25
career. And this is my version of
0:27
adulthood.
0:29
>> [music]
0:32
>> Welcome to my backyard. I am a grown
0:34
adult, but I put all these different
0:36
obstacles up in the trees. That way, I
0:37
can still exercise. [music]
0:39
These are like my extra little finger
0:41
grips. So, put my fingers in the very
0:42
bottom and I can do a little bit of
0:45
movements with those. I don't usually
0:47
use a gym that much. I just come [music]
0:48
back here and exercise and get my hands
0:50
a little dirty. It's a really nice life.
0:53
All right, that's enough playing around.
0:54
Let's pack [music] up the Rav 4 and get
0:56
on the road.
0:59
>> [music]
0:59
>> I think what really encapsulates my
1:01
version of adulthood is independence.
1:03
Making sure that you have the ability to
1:05
[music] go out and adventure if you
1:07
want. And the RAV 4 is a pretty awesome
1:08
tool to do that. So today's agenda is
1:11
we're going to go to Emerald Bay Lookout
1:13
where I have to film [music] some
1:14
content. And then we're going to go to
1:15
Pope Beach where we're going to see if
1:16
there's any trash and needs cleaned up
1:18
on the shore. And then we're going to
1:19
pop over to the Northshore where I have
1:20
some friends waiting at a campsite. Hey
1:22
Toyota, [music]
1:24
take me to Emerald Bay Lookout. Let's go
1:26
places.
1:30
So, since [music] we're going to
1:31
multiple spots today, I have a lot
1:33
packed in the trunk. I've got beach
1:35
chairs, guitar, I've got my [music] day
1:37
bag, as well as a first aid kit. The RAV
1:39
4 Woodland has great cargo space, and I
1:42
always can have all my adventures packed
1:44
[music] in one car.
1:48
[music]
1:53
Okay, we made it here to Emerald Bay.
1:55
This is a gorgeous view looking over
1:56
Lake Tahoe. [music] And this Emerald Bay
1:58
Trail is number one, a fantastic spot to
2:01
hike, but two, to film some content.
2:03
Maybe [music] I'll shed some little
2:04
nature knowledge nuggets along the way.
2:05
Come on.
2:09
[music] What? All right. So, these are
2:11
thimbleberry leaves. Thimbleberries have
2:13
these really bright red berries towards
2:16
a couple weeks from now, so we're a
2:17
little early. But all of these white
2:18
flowers [music] you can see are going to
2:20
turn into these almost raspberry looking
2:22
like berries. But the inside [music] is
2:23
a complete convex thing. So you can like
2:26
stick your thumb in it and then just
2:27
wear it as a thimble thimbleberry.
2:29
[music]
2:33
[music] All right, I got something cool
2:35
to show you guys. If you guys look out
2:38
right where the [music] sun is at, if
2:39
you think to yourself, does this branch
2:41
look healthy? The answer is probably no.
2:43
And it's because of all this stuff right
2:44
here. So this is mistletoe. [music] It's
2:46
actually a parasite that lives off of
2:48
the bark nutrition. It's actually really
2:50
helpful for a lot of forests because
2:52
after a while it actually coves a lot of
2:54
the plants that are too overpop
2:56
populated. [music]
3:00
All right, this is going to be a perfect
3:02
spot to set up for a little video. I'm
3:04
going to grab my tripod and my camera.
3:06
We're going to get grooving. [music]
3:07
I was always into helping the
3:09
environment and I figured out that my
3:10
skill in it was to talk to people and uh
3:12
I really just got viral being who I
3:15
wanted to be. So, I went to a place like
3:17
Lake Tahoe where I could get to make
3:18
some awesome content to motivate people
3:20
to find that in their own lives. When
3:22
you're out hiking, there's three things
3:24
that I definitely want [music] to make
3:25
sure you guys have. Number one is a
3:26
water source. It's been fun creating an
3:28
online community for outdoor Anthony.
3:30
Uh, first aid tip. Thanks. It's got a
3:33
lot of people [music] that haven't
3:34
thought about getting outside in the way
3:36
that I do. If you've ever gone and seen
3:37
an awesome body of water like this and
3:39
it's not attached to the ocean, you
3:40
might be thinking, what makes a [music]
3:42
lake, right? Well, and that's really
3:44
cool for me to introduce nature to new
3:46
folk. And that's really why I'm here.
3:48
I'm the entry levelvel educator to make
3:50
sure those folks that have never really
3:52
thought about a life of adventure
3:53
[music]
3:54
actually can get that life and it's
3:55
accessible for them. We're going to head
3:57
down from Emerald Bay Lookout to Pope
3:59
Beach to the lake level. Maybe there's
4:01
[music] going to be some trash we can
4:02
help pick up along the way. So, let's
4:03
pack up, get to the raft 4. Let's get on
4:06
the road.
4:18
>> [music]
4:21
>> Welcome to Pope Beach. This is a super
4:23
popular recreation area for tourists.
4:24
And so [music] after the weekend,
4:26
there's often times a bunch of trash
4:27
left over here. So, uh, I've got some
4:29
trash bags today. [music] Let's do some
4:31
good
4:33
practice good hygiene and good disposal.
4:36
So, we have a plastic [music] water
4:38
bottle band here in Lake Tahoe, but
4:39
oftent times tourists just bring up
4:41
bottles anyways, and you still find them
4:43
on the beach. People pride themselves on
4:46
this lake being pristine and clean.
4:48
However, [music] we got to make sure it
4:50
stays that way, and that's why I'm here.
4:52
Sometimes it's tough to stay motivated
4:54
to continue to work constantly, but at
4:56
the [music] same time, every once in a
4:58
while, I'll get a comment saying, "Hey,
5:00
you inspired me to get outside today."
5:01
Or, "Hey, I went to a beach [music]
5:02
cleanup because of you. I got that one
5:04
last week." So stuff like that is really
5:06
cool. Those small little things that let
5:09
me know that I've [music] made that
5:11
impact keeps me going. All right, we got
5:14
a nice little haul for adventure of
5:16
picking up trash. I'm going to bring
5:17
this back to my house. That way the
5:18
bears don't get it out here in the
5:20
dumpsters. And then on the north shore,
5:22
I've got some friends waiting to hang
5:24
out at a campsite. We're going to relax
5:26
and have ourselves [music] a nice forest
5:28
hangout. Let's groove.
5:31
>> [music]
5:32
>> What I like about Tahoe is no matter
5:33
what kind of day it is out here, I can
5:35
have an adventure. And so the Toyota Rav
5:37
4 [music] Woodland can really take me to
5:38
the top of the mountains, it can take me
5:40
to the lakeside or in the back country.
5:42
And I'm the kind of guy that really
5:43
needs that versatility. And being in
5:45
this car is limitless. [music]
5:50
>> You made it.
5:52
>> Nice paddle board. You brought it.
5:54
>> Yeah, I brought it. But I only have this
5:57
electric pump. I didn't bring my other
5:59
pump.
5:59
>> Okay. [music] I have a 120 volt AC
6:01
outlet in the back of the car.
6:03
>> Yeah.
6:03
>> All right, let's do it. [music]
6:08
>> Yes.
6:12
Pumper up.
6:16
[music]
6:18
>> Hey, we did it. You made it.
6:21
>> Oh my gosh. Great to see you guys.
6:23
>> What do you think of your uh your
6:24
wrestling spot here?
6:25
>> The resting spot is perfect, dude. Oh my
6:27
gosh. Look at this place. [music]
6:29
Not bad. Not bad.
6:31
>> All right, we are here hanging out in
6:33
this beautiful spot next to one of my
6:35
favorite rivers, the Truckucky River.
6:37
And there's no better way to end the day
6:39
than with friends, food, and beautiful
6:41
access to scenery like this. Awesome way
6:44
to end this trip.
6:50
>> Got ourselves a little tent.
6:52
The life of content creation can be
6:54
[music] kind of hectic and stressful,
6:56
but having an ability to unwind like
6:58
this and be with people that really care
6:59
about me, it's just I feel so lucky. And
7:02
that is why this is so special to me.
7:06
So, close your thumbs. So, I'm going to
7:07
put one lip on top, one [music] on
7:09
bottom,
7:12
underneath your chin.
7:16
>> [laughter]
7:17
>> I feel like some people think I have to
7:19
go backpack for 5 days in order to feel
7:21
that sense of adventure, but adventure
7:23
is the everyday things. It's the small
7:24
acts of going on a walk, going a [music]
7:26
little bit further than how you usually
7:28
go, and finding that sense of community
7:29
and the people around you that encourage
7:31
you to keep pushing [music] a little bit
7:32
further. Find new skills, find new
7:34
groups of people to hang out with, and
7:36
overall find new ways to help this
7:38
world.
7:38
>> Amazing.
7:41
>> Thanks, guys. So, from me to you, thanks
7:43
for watching. [music] I'm Anthony
7:44
Porter, Outdoor Anthony. Thanks for
7:46
joining me on a day in the life of
7:48
adventure.
7:49
What is your [music] adventure in
7:50
adulthood? I'll see you guys next time.
7:58
>> [music]
