EU seeks input on steel import controls | Vietnam Today

0:52authorities, and partners outside the EU

0:54to submit information on production,

0:57consumption, imports, and market demand.

0:59The responses will help determine

1:01whether these products should be

1:02included in the EU steel import quota

1:05system. Under the current rules, up to

1:0718.3 million tons of steel may enter the

1:10EU each year without additional duties.

1:13Imports above that quota are subject to

1:16a 50% tariff. For Vietnam, the potential

1:18impact will depend on the specific

1:20customs codes involved and whether

1:23Vietnamese companies currently export

1:24the products under consideration. At

1:27this stage, the European Union is only

1:29gathering feedback and has not yet

1:31decided to expand the scope of the

1:33measures.

1:36>> The European Commission is expected to

1:38complete its assessment by 31st December

1:41this year at the latest. For now, the

1:44potential impact on Vietnamese export

1:46remain limited and should be closely

1:48monitored.

1:50A clearer picture will emerge only after

1:53the EU publishes its finding and

1:55identifies the specific product codes,

1:58if any, to be added to the regulation.
