0:37brother, Huynh Van Quy, who enlisted at

0:4018, had been killed in action.

0:44My mother told us my brother had died

0:47near the E bridge. She said many

0:49soldiers were buried together in mass

0:51graves. We never knew where to look.

0:55For nearly six decades, the family had

0:57no clues. That changed when search teams

1:00uncovered personal belongings bearing

1:03the name Huynh Van Quy during

1:04excavations at Le Thi Rieng Park.

1:08>> For 60 years, we didn't know where he

1:10was. Our parents passed away without

1:12ever finding him.

1:17>> The discovery has brought hope, but also

1:19uncertainty. DNA tests are still needed

1:22to confirm the identity. Even so, the

1:25new lead is more than the family had had

1:28dared hope for.

1:31We're so happy. We just want to bring my

1:33brother home and hold a proper memorial

1:35for him.

1:39Investigators also found a discrepancy

1:41in the record. The death notice lists

1:44the name Huynh Van Quy, while the

1:46national certificate of merit and the

1:48recovered belongings bear the name Huynh

1:50Van Quy. Officials say the soldier's

1:53hometown, family details, and military

1:55records all match.

1:58>> There was an error in the documents.

2:01Once the correct name is confirmed,

2:02[music] we'll update the records so they

2:04are consistent.

2:08>> For the family of Phung Van Quyen, the

2:10DNA results are only part of the

2:12journey. What they long for most is to

2:15call their brother by his rightful name

2:18and finally bring him home.

2:23>> The story just now is actually a part of

2:25the 500-day and night campaign. And

2:28staying with the campaign, three sets of

2:30fallen soldiers' remains have been

2:32recovered during an ongoing search

2:34operation in Quang Ngai province

2:36following fresh evidence about a

2:38battlefield dating back to the 1968 Tet

2:41Offensive. The remains were discovered

2:44while excavation work was underway at

2:46the Doc Gam Military Cemetery. Over the

2:49past month, search teams have

2:51investigated more than 45 locations

2:54around the cemetery and along Truong

2:56Chinh Street. The search was launched

2:59after a U.S. veteran shared new

3:01information about the site.

3:03Investigators then matched his accounts

3:05with declassified aerial photographs,

3:08military maps, and witness testimonies.

3:16killed during the 1968 Tet Offensive.
