Young Doctor Wins Top Prize for Pain Study

Dr. Ha Quoc Hung got the top award at a conference in Da Nang. He works in the hospital's anesthesia department.
His work is based on patients' needs.
Hung's study compared two ways to stop pain after lung surgery. He wanted to find the safest and most effective way.
He started the project because patients have a hard time after chest surgery.
Hung said, 'Pain after chest surgery can be very bad. If we don't control it, patients may have breathing problems or stay in the hospital longer.'
Hung thinks that choosing the right pain treatment can help patients recover faster and have fewer problems.
His study will help the hospital's program to improve recovery after surgery. Anesthesia is a key part of this program.
Hung chose a difficult medical specialty.
When he applied for his medical training, Hung chose anesthesia from 23 options.
He likes anesthesia because it combines knowledge of internal medicine and fast decision-making in surgery.
Hung said, 'Anesthesiologists do more than just help patients during surgery. We must also react quickly to emergencies.'
His research has real-world impact.
Hung didn't just want to win an award at the conference. He wanted to share knowledge with other doctors and learn from experts.
Presenting his work to senior experts was challenging, but he felt good when he got recognized.
A professor praised Hung's knowledge and presentation skills after his talk.
Hung believes research should improve patient care, not just be for academic recognition.
He said, 'A study is only useful if it solves real problems and can be used in practice. Researchers must also communicate their findings clearly.'
Hung remembers the moment they announced his name at the awards ceremony as one of the best moments in his career.
He wanted to share his achievement with his mentors who guided him through medical training and research.
Hung hopes that hospitals and universities will give young doctors more chances to do scientific research, which will improve patient care.
At just 28, Hung has already published many papers in international and Vietnamese medical journals and won other awards.
