Here's a list of states that are participating in the tax-free weekend and how to save the most money.
Iowa is having a tax-free weekend on August 7-8 for clothing and shoes that cost less than $100.
Illinois is lowering its sales tax rate from 6.25% to 1.25% on certain clothing and school supplies from August 7-16.
Massachusetts is not charging sales tax on personal purchases of $2,500 or less per item on August 8-9.
Missouri is not charging sales tax on certain items like clothing and computers from August 7-9.
Ohio is not charging sales tax on clothing and school supplies that cost less than $75 and $20 respectively from August 7-9.
Oklahoma is not charging sales tax on clothing and shoes that cost less than $100 from August 7-9.
South Carolina is the best state to shop in this weekend because it's not charging sales tax on many items like computers and school supplies.
Texas is not charging sales tax on clothing, shoes, and backpacks that cost less than $100 from August 7-9.
Virginia is not charging sales tax on certain items like clothing and school supplies from August 7-9.
Florida is not charging sales tax on computers and clothing from July 20 to August 20.
Maryland is not charging sales tax on clothing and shoes that cost less than $100 from August 9-15.
Connecticut is not charging sales tax on clothing and shoes that cost less than $300 from August 16-22.
Mississippi is not charging sales tax on firearms and hunting supplies from August 28-30.
You can still get the tax break if you shop online from your couch. Just make sure your shipping address is in a participating state and check the final total before you buy.
To get the best deals, look for categories with high price limits or no limits at all.
If you live in Florida or Missouri, your state has a tax-free limit on computers of $1,500 per item.
Look for laptops that cost between $500 and $1,200. You can save $30 to $80 on top of the sale price.
