Why K‑pop idols drink alcohol on an empty stomach before photo shoots

In a YouTube interview with Studio SLAM, Seola of the girl group WJSN said idols often drink a few shots of soju or strong whiskey right before bed after not eating anything.

Seola explained that the alcohol pulls excess water out of the body. Less water means less bloating, so the idol looks slimmer during a photo shoot or music‑video filming.

She added that the very thin, almost sick look is hidden by makeup and bright stage lighting. The makeup and lighting make the idol appear sharp on camera.

Seola also said another quick trick is to eat only candy and chocolate. Because the sweets are small, the stomach does not stick out, and the sugar gives a short burst of energy for filming.

These comments come as fans and media worry about how extremely thin many K‑pop idols have become. Some artists are now praised when they gain a little weight instead of losing more.
