Noah Lyles Stops Mid-Race at US Nationals, Loses 200 Meters

Jefferson-Wooden wins her second national title with a season-best time of 21.69.

Noah Lyles stopped running halfway through the 200-meter final at the US track championships. He suffered a rare loss, and Garrett Kaalund took the title. Lyles stopped because he felt a pain.

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won the women's 200 meters at the US nationals in New York. She ran a season-best time of 21.69.

Noah Lyles was doing well in the 200 meters, but then he slowed down and stopped. He congratulated the winner, Garrett Kaalund. Kaalund won with a time of 20.04. Lyles made it to the finish line.

Noah Lyles said he felt a cramp and decided to stop running. He is tied with Michael Johnson for the most US titles at 200 meters. Lyles said he is fine and just needs to stretch and get some electrolytes.

Noah Lyles ran the 150 meters in a world-best time of 14.67 seconds.

This was only the fourth time Noah Lyles lost a 200-meter race since 2018. Two of those losses were at the Olympics. Lyles won the 100 meters earlier in the week.

Garrett Kaalund said he came to the nationals to train against the best athletes.

Kaalund said he did not expect to win a medal, he just wanted to see how he would do.

Jefferson-Wooden won the women's 200 meters, and her main competitor, Gabby Thomas, did not run.

There are no world championships this year, but there will be the Ultimate Championships with a $150,000 prize.

The next big competition, the LA Games, is two years away.

Jefferson-Wooden said the women's sprints are very competitive, and the next few years will be interesting to watch.
