Why Scam Texts Flood Your Phone at Noon and on Fridays

Between 15 April and 14 July 2026, cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes examined global threat data, tracking more than 20 different scam categories.

For U.S. users, scam‑text volume peaked at about 12 p.m. Eastern Time – roughly 874 % higher than the quietest hour, 1 a.m. ET. Activity rose through the week and hit its highest on Friday, when fraudulent texts were about 50 % more common than at the start of the week.

Scammers aim for moments when people are busy, distracted, and likely to act quickly. At lunch, workers often check phones between meetings; on Friday, many are wrapping up tasks and may respond faster to urgent‑looking messages.

The same research shows different scams prefer the channel that best fits their story: job‑related scams usually arrive by email, romance scams are most common on social‑media platforms, and tech‑support scams typically start with a phone call.

Malwarebytes also reports that it blocks around 500,000 phishing websites each day, underscoring the scale of online fraud. Knowing the timing and preferred channels helps you stay alert, especially around noon and on Fridays.
