Best and Worst UK Seaside Towns

A new survey shows the best and worst seaside towns in the UK.

Cornwall and Devon did not do well in the survey. A town in the north of England was the best for the sixth year in a row.

A town in the south was the worst. It has a Butlin's resort and good weather.

More than 5,300 people answered questions about their visits to seaside towns. They talked about the beach, food, and other things.

Bamburgh in Northumberland was the best town. It got 84% and five stars for its beach and scenery.

People liked the beach and scenery in Bamburgh.

Bamburgh is a nice town with a castle and fish and chip shops. It is near Holy Island.

The North East did well in the survey. Tynemouth was second with 82% and five stars for its seafront and food.

A holidaymaker liked the golden sand beaches in Tynemouth.

Scotland also did well. St Andrews was third with 81% and five stars for its beach and tourist attractions.

Crail in Fife was fifth. It has white houses and a fishing harbour.

Frinton-on-Sea in Essex was the best town in the south. People liked its seafront and quiet atmosphere.

Bognor Regis was the worst town. It has a Butlin's resort but is not very nice.

A woman who grew up in Bognor Regis said it has changed a lot. She remembers happy summers there.

The town used to be busy with families. Now it is empty and grey.

The pier is not very nice. The town centre is empty with few shops.

Clacton-on-Sea was eighth worst. It has a big pier with good amusement facilities.

Some towns did okay in the survey. Margate and Newquay were not very good.

Margate has a run-down town centre. But people like its shops and the Turner Gallery.

Margate is a quirky town with good events and food. But it is a bit rough.

Dreamland in Margate is busy in the summer.

Newquay is good for surfers but not for older people. It is busy and noisy.

Newquay has wonderful beaches. But it is not very quiet.

Barry Island was not very good. One tourist said to avoid it unless you like Gavin and Stacey.

The waterfront in Barry Island is a bit tacky. But the beach is nice.

The survey was done online with 5,320 people. They talked about their visits to seaside towns.
