Thailand Loses Second Place in Southeast Asia's Aviation Market

Indonesia is still the largest aviation market in Southeast Asia. It had around 11 million available seats in August, which is 4.3% more than last year.

The total airline capacity in Southeast Asia was around 51 million seats in August. This is 0.8% more than the same time last year.

Thailand is now in third place with 7.2 million seats. Malaysia has 5.4 million seats and the Philippines has 4.8 million seats.

Indonesia also has the largest domestic aviation market in the region. It had 8.8 million seats available, which is 5.4% more than last year. Vietnam had the fastest growth at 10%. Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines had less capacity than last year.

Lion Air in Indonesia will have around 2.33 million seats. This makes it the third largest airline in Southeast Asia. Batik Air is helping to grow the full-service airline segment in the region.

Flights from Southeast Asia to Europe and North America are increasing. Capacity to these areas is up 10.8% and 9% respectively. However, flights to the Middle East are down 4.6%.
