0:08critics, we really mean it. As of the

0:15at a 96% Tomato Meter rating on Rotten

0:18Tomatoes. That's the best critical

0:20assessment of any feature in Nolan's 26

0:23years directing them. Rotten Tomatoes

0:25Popcorn Meter, which measures the

0:27sentiment of non-critics who leave

0:28reviews on the site, is at 97%.

0:31So, by all indications, the love fest

0:33for The Odyssey stretches well beyond

0:35the critical sphere. One review calls it

0:38a masterclass in filmmaking. Another

0:40said it was the best movie they'd

0:41[music] seen in a long time. Another

0:43recommended, "If you're able, watch it

0:45in IMAX. It deserves that."

0:58theater-going experience rather than the

1:04seats not being level. Their star

1:06ratings are still very high, but that's

1:08the Rotten Tomatoes crowd. Maybe they

1:11were already inclined to love the film.

1:13What about the more vocally critical

1:14audience on X? Months before the movie

1:16came out, there were social media

1:18complaints about various aspects of the

1:20movie. The casting, what sounded to some

1:22as dialogue that's too modern, and

1:24changes to the original story, which

1:26dates back to the 8th century BC. Yet,

1:29quite a few X users were also raving

1:31about The Odyssey. One wrote, "Bottom

1:33line, this Christopher Nolan dude is

1:35straight-up cooking, in my opinion.

1:37Deserves all the hype and all those good

1:39ratings out there." Another called the

1:41movie very impressive and intimidating,

1:43dark and sinister, adding that it feels

1:46huge and that the acting and casting are

1:48superb. Particular members of the cast

1:50got big shout-outs, too. One user wrote,

1:52"Samantha Morton and John Leguizamo were

1:54fantastic. Agamemnon was hot." The Greek

1:58king Agamemnon is played by Benny

2:00Safdie, by the way. Others said they

2:02were pleasantly surprised by Tom

2:03Holland's turn as Telemachus, [music]

2:05and there's Oscar buzz for Anne

2:06Hathaway's portrayal of Penelope.

2:19trilogy, though they didn't expand on

2:22did, thankfully, particularly making

2:24direct comparisons between The Odyssey

2:26and Oppenheimer. One noted that The

2:28Odyssey has a non-linear editing style

2:30like the one used in Oppenheimer, adding

2:32that both films focus on regrets, guilt,

2:34[music] and longing. They also gave a

2:36shout-out to Ludwig Göransson's score,

2:39calling it beautiful. It's true that

2:41Tenet, Oppenheimer, and The Odyssey all

2:43focus on war and its consequences, as

2:45well as the effects that wartime

2:47decisions have on the people who make

2:48them. For lots of viewers, that's a

2:50ultimate message is a good thing, but

2:52not everyone. One X user wrote, spinning

2:54it as a complaint that The Odyssey kind

2:56of collapses into being Oppenheimer in

2:58the end. And to be sure, there are some

3:00negative takes on The Odyssey out there.

3:02The complaints about the casting and

3:04dialogue persist, though it's [music]

3:06difficult to tell if that's the same

3:07pre-release griping, or if those

3:09commenters have actually seen the film.

3:11The most common grievance from people

3:12who did see it is a lengthy watch. One
