Category A car permits cost S$123,890, 1.7% less than before. These cars are 1,600cc or less and have 130bhp or less.

Category B car permits rose to S$129,910, up S$20 from S$129,890.

Commercial vehicle permits fell 2.5% to S$91,545. These vehicles include goods vehicles and buses.

Motorcycle permits cost S$10,503, up 3% from S$10,202.

Open category permits rose 0.8% to S$131,000. These permits can be used for any vehicle type.

There were 4,337 bids for 3,242 permits.

This bidding is for the August to October period. The permit quota will increase 0.2% to 19,085.

The Category B quota will grow 6.2% to 5,527, but the Category A quota will fall 4% to 7,134.

The Land Transport Authority discussed merging Category A and B permits into one category.

Some lawmakers think manufacturers change vehicle specs to fit Category A permits, making the price difference between categories smaller.

The Land Transport Authority said the current criteria for permits are not effective in distinguishing between mass market and higher-end cars.
