He bought the winning ticket in the small town of Rosthern while traveling to support his favourite team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. After the draw, he celebrated at a tailgate in Saskatoon, a city about 140 km from his home.

Putland said the first thing he thought of was a GMC Denali Ultimate truck. He also received a personalized Roughriders jersey signed by quarterback Trevor Harris, which he plans to wear to every game.

He wants to share the money with his family. He has three daughters and nine grandchildren, and he plans to give them enough money to avoid any school debt and to give them a good start in life.

Putland also intends to donate part of the winnings to charity. He said his large family of 14 members grew up with little, so helping his children and future generations feels important.
